This class is definitely directed towards dietetic majors, however it's good material for anyone interested in the health care field. Dr. Weatherspoon knows her stuff and truly cares about student success. Much of the material is pulled directly from the textbook so it's a good idea to have one as it helps tremendously for further explanation of what is discussed in lecture. Dr. Weatherspoon is a well-educated and worldly professor, she's a good person to know simply for the fact that she has a wealth of knowledge to share.

Pros: Extra credit galore
easy exams
Cons: long term paper with little instruction
Dr. Weatherspoon is AMAZING. She enjoys class conversation, she knows her stuff, and just a delight as a professor. If you attend class there is a lot of possible extra credit points. Many of the class sessions are filled with guest speakers from different cultural backgrounds, which are interesting to listen to. The exams are filled with little details, but if you attend class and study your notes before hand the exams are easy.

Pros: common sense stuff
Cons: Rushes through her slides, guest and student presentation are usually horribly boring
Stupid class but you'll do fine, you need to study the lectures intensely and the handouts she puts on angel. Use your common sense, half multiple choice, half essay-but you can just list stuff. Go over student presentation questions, check over your stuff because the TAs can make mistakes (they grade everything) a big term paper but its not bad, can be on what you want and graded easy. Book is pretty pointless, she'll photocopy important pages. KNOW YOUR GUEST PRESENTATIONS

Pros: Interesting class
Cons: Everything
SO DISORGANIZED
Can't know grade
No way to succeed
I don't even know where to begin. This class would be super interesting if taught by someone else. She just lectures, says "particularly" about a million times, and is so unorganized. She didn't tell us what to read, the syllabus was wrong, the study guide isn't updated so it doesn't pertain to what you learn. She doesn't put grades on angel. She randomly decided to change how things were being graded and didn't tell anyone, I only found out because I asked her how much the extra credit quizzes were worth and then she couldn't even explain it. She's also one of the biggest bitches ever, extremely stuck up. I'm a freshman who 4.0 this class, and I have nothing but horror stories. The exams are weird, they ask extremely weird questions that no matter how much you study, you wouldn't ever know. For a class of about 60 and 3 TAs a GA and 2 profs, there should have been organization, but there was no way to succeed in this class other than to hope you remember random stuff. The ten page mid term is really easy though. Overall I would run away from this prof

Pros: You'll learn a lot of useful information
Cons: There aren't many points, so each one counts. Also the exams are 50% essay, 50% multiple choice. Because there were so few questions, they were rather hard
Be very carful to look over your assignments and tests when you get them back; there are frequent grading errors. She will give you those points back if you submit them to her within 24 hours. But it is still anoying to have to check. I re-submited every singal assignment and exam for re-grading.
She doesn't post grades, so its hard to tell how well you are doing

Pros: Really easy class.
Cons: She didn't teach the class at all. It was all Dr. Thompson or guest lecturers.

This class was terrible. The exams are awful; I think just about everyone solidly failed the first exam. She makes not attempt to prepare you for the questions, and often times one line in your notes will comprise 10% of your grade on the exam. You have to memorize every word that she says, and the information she provides you with is often unsupported and is sometimes flat out incorrect. If you ask her a real question and she doesn't know the answer, she treats you like a retard. She's crazy uppity, and is by far the worst professor I've ever had. She made me want to change my major. If there's anyway to get out of this class, take it.

I love Dr. Weatherspoon, such an amazing person. The only professor I've had that really cares! The test are kind of hard, and the TAs grade them. But you have a presentation, paper, and lots of random points that even out her exams. The one down side is I thought there were too many student presentations.

This class was awful. Weatherspoon acts like a smart ass and asks ridiculous questions just to sound smart. The information is boring and she whines about the students in the class all the time. I know its required for Nut Sci majors but this class is a pain. I stopped going after the second exam because I can't stand how much of an uppity bitch she is. Good luck with her.

Her class was made interesting by her stories as a nutritionist and she has surprise quizzes so that people will show up for class. However I think there was a barrier with her english and the test writing because some of her questions did not seem straightforward to me. I had to ask the TA's and sometimes clarify also with her as to what she is actually asking. She is fair because she lets you rebuttal her exam grading. So make sure that you go over your exam after she hands it back within the same day because her TA's sometimes grade unfairly. She will take your rebuttal into consideration and I got up to 10 points back on one exam! She will also tell little facts in class and not put them in the notes just so the people who come to class will get them right. So go to class!!

I'm not sure what everyone is talking about here. This class is an easy 4.0 and its really interesting. I'm not even a nutrition major and I 4.0ed and barely studied. You just have to go to lecture and do the assignments, even the 10-page paper is not bad at all. The only hard part of the class is the 2nd exam, but there is enough extra credit that it doesnt make a difference in your final grade.

I hate this woman, she's rude and obnoxious, her tests are ridiculous and she asks stupid questions. She thinks she is so far above everyone and HNF 453 gives a new meaning to the word "boring"

I love her! She's an amazing prof and has a lot of knowledge on these subjects. She is also in the internship board for the MSU Dietetics internship so suck up to her as much as possible! She could be the deciding vote if you get the internship or not. She is also an awesome reference when signing up for other internships. Listen to her and go to class. You'll need every bit of information you can get from her!

Between HNF 406 and HNF 453, this woman has said the words particular/particularly 1159 times. Other than that, when she lectures, she goes right from the slides (which are packed with information) but also adds a 10min editorial to what she's presented. Needless to say, she talks way more than necessary. Nice lady though. Watch out for how the TA's grade things. BE SURE TO GO OVER EVERY EXAM THE NIGHT AFTER YOU HAVE TAKEN IT! we've lost alot of points this semester because of grading errors.

pretty good prof, only bad thing was the grading errors on the multiple choice questions.

She is a really cute lady. She tends to talk A LOT, but most of the things she talks about are interesting. Her tests are half multiple choice and half essay, but they aren't bad at all. You also have to do some media assignments throughout the semester that are easy free points. Fun class.
